I guess I just never saw them as a legitimate civ worthy of my notice... ;)

I can also see the argument for Harad; the +1 cost for Rangers of Arnor, though, also includes not receiving the poison ability on shooting, which is really handy for a force that now has a 50% bow limit like Harad. So, I'd argue in passing that Harad gets a pretty good deal for their archers, all things considered, :)Centaurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06864036616223908725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010239046857689405.post-40359870914412187362013-01-08T09:05:17.150-05:002013-01-08T09:05:17.150-05:00well, considering that 1) I stick to LOME lists, s...well, considering that 1) I stick to LOME lists, so I don't _really_ think of it as the same list, 2) none of us really field Umbar, I didn't feel particularly compelled to argue on their behalf. But yes, I would agree that the Corsairs would also be included.

although I'm starting to think perhaps Glenstorm more meant "trade defense for a bump in other key profile stats" rather than firepower as "damage potential" - in which case Harad as a whole does not really qualify, but the Corsairs probably still do.

anyways, chaulk this debate up to "Zorro just got a number of new Harad units and is feeling desert fever again" ;) el zorrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02074174383236578390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010239046857689405.post-61065075111350901552013-01-08T06:34:50.679-05:002013-01-08T06:34:50.679-05:00Hehe...well, maybe now I'll chime in a little ...Hehe...well, maybe now I'll chime in a little and all the admins will have had their say.

Here's something neither of you have considered: Harad isn't just Harad anymore - it's "Harad & Umbar." Even if you don't think that Harad trades "defense for firepower" (though you can certainly make the case that they do with their Abrakhan Guards, Serpent Guards, or Watchers of Karna), the Umbar elements arguably do (D3 or D4 warriors with Fight 4 and throwing weapons anyone?).

If the thought of trading "defense for firepower" doesn't include hording units, though, very few armies (maybe not even Wood Elves) would count in this category. As the list is already small if we limit it to the D4 and under civs, I think Harad and Umbar is a fair addition. My thoughts...Tiberiushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01032927898313675650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010239046857689405.post-49038947329503128462013-01-07T23:03:47.827-05:002013-01-07T23:03:47.827-05:00yeaaaah. not convinced it is all that different. T...yeaaaah. not convinced it is all that different. The difference between a lowly harad warrior w spear and a wood elf who is able to shield at F5? 1 point. The difference between a harad archer with bow and a F4 Ranger who can shoot at a 3+? 1 point. Being the only non-hobbit/non-GC civ that has no capacity to shield? if that is not sacrificing defense, what is?

and what good is a disclaimer without a little reason to give it? ;)el zorrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02074174383236578390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010239046857689405.post-12973195274652163762013-01-07T15:43:19.637-05:002013-01-07T15:43:19.637-05:00@Tiberius: Anytime, buddy, ;)
@Zorro: I had Harad...@Tiberius: Anytime, buddy, ;)

@Zorro: I had Harad as a third up until about 5 minutes before posting, and then I removed them. Major reason for this: Harad doesn't trade defense for firepower, which is the primary fear for Wood Elves and Grey Company. Both Wood Elves and GC have good upfront stats to help them win fights, but if you get past that, they're done. Harad, on the other hand relies on either strength of numbers (warriors), cover before clobber (Abrakhans), or brute force and defense at a high cost (Mumak, anyone?), all of which make them a very differently run civ than Grey Company and the Wood Elves.

So, while they are definitely not a "heavy armor" civ, they don't "trade" their defense for firepower. They just have a very different tactical scenario that involves low defense, low armor, high numbers and damage potential (not unlike the Hunter Orcs of the Misty Mountains).

And, again, I'll point you back to the disclaimer at the front of the post: my opinion, blah-blah-blah, ;PCentaurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06864036616223908725noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2010239046857689405.post-60441168906076461792013-01-07T08:29:03.769-05:002013-01-07T08:29:03.769-05:00How can you speak of damage over defense and not t...How can you speak of damage over defense and not think Harad? Helloooo Abrakhans anyone?!? At least wood elves can shield w their spears, and your base GC member is F4. The desert people have nothing - except the ability to carve through dwarves of course.

Nice write-up on the formations. Interesting thoughts for GC (and some great cross-over for Wood Elves). :) Also liking those new Orcs you have - we need to introduce them to some Dwarf steel sometime. :PTiberiushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01032927898313675650noreply@blogger.com
